The Maloja Pass
It’s well surfaced and quite a sight, with the steepest section consisting of short straights and hairpin turns. The road climbs, or plummets depending upon direction around 300m over a very short distance.
The road could be considered only a half of a pass, since the other side follows large lakes through the valley towards Silvaplana and St Moritz but maintains an altitude of around 1800m.
Snakes and Ladders
This is a main route that follows the valley from St Moritz, across the Italian border to the north of Lake Como and although traffic can be reasonably heavy at times, the very sight of the road from the bottom will make you smile. We drove it from St Moritz so for us it was a steady cruise down with plenty of other cars for company. If you were to approach it from the Italian side and the southwest, I’d imagine climbing the hairpins would put a grin on your face.
